Personal:

I am 27.  Have done 33 marathons and ultras. Really trying to get in shape to get back to running the miles I want to. I love to read and worked for four years in a bookstore. I like to keep track of the books I read. Currently I work as a 6th & 7th grade history teacher at the only charter school in Berkshire County, as well as serve as the coach for the cross country team! Been experimenting as a pescatarian (eating only fish) since August 10, 2011.

Just earned my Master's Degree in Adolescent Education for Social Studies. I have the most wonderful WIFE in the entire world.. EMMA! October 16, 2010

Run when you can, walk when you have to, crawl if you must. Just never give up! - Dean Karnazes -

We are all teachers and we are all students in this sport. - Dean Karnazes -

The simple act of putting one foot in front of the other and moving forward at an accelerated rate can be one of life's greatest - and simplest - pleasures. ~Dean Karnazes

"Your beliefs become your thoughts, your thoughts become your words, your words become your actions, your actions become your habits, your habits become your values, your values become your destiny." - MK Gandhi

"The marathon mercilessly rips off the outer layers of our defenses and leaves the raw human, vulnerable and naked. It is here you get an honest glimpse into the soul of an individual. Every insecurity and character flaw is open and on display for all the world to see. No communication is ever more real, no expression ever more honest. There is nothing left to hide behind. The marathon is the great equalizer. Ever movement, every word spoken and unspoken, is radiant truth. The veil has been obliterated. These are the profound moments of human interaction that I live for." - Dean Karnazes

5:30 PM - After work I met my brother Jonny and also Jonathan and Jeremy from work. We carpooled up to Spa Park, stretched and then hit the 5k course. I felt good. Chatted with Jonn and Jonathan as we went, but after we got to about 1.25 miles in I looked back and couldn't find Jeremy. I back tracked and found him walking. He said his asthma was acting up so I went back and jogged/walked with him the rest of the way. We would do about 4-5 mins of jogging and then a couple of walking. He said he wanted to quit but I kept saying "Hang in there! We'll do it even if we have to drag you out of here." He hung in there. Was really proud of him. Splits were (8:56, 10:27, 10:12). Then we did a half mile cool down to the car. Was almost there and got stung in the right ankle by a bee as we ran through a field of clover. Doh! Poor bee. I looked down and its stinger was still in my ankle and pulsing! I ripped it out and kept running letting out a Howling Commando roar! Stretched and went back to the bookstore for an iced coffee with the guys. I am hoping to get a tempo run in tomorrow before coming back to watch the tour! Should be a great mountain stage! Was great to run with friends from work :).

Way to pull a comrade through...coach....

Who you got in the tour? I'd love to see Lance pull it out, but Contador just appears soooo strong.

Howl on...

Of course everyone would love to see Lance, but I agree. Contador looked so strong yesterday on the stage. It all depends though. I have always liked Andy Schleck. He is promising, but albeit somewhat young and inexperienced as of yet. I would like to see either him or Cadel make a move in the Alps tomorrow. I also feel that Christian Vandevelde / Brad Wiggins from Garmin will make a push. It's anyones game but if Contador doesn't crack I can easily see him grabbing even more time. His acceleration is unreal!

I can't believe that bee had the nerve to attack the Commando himself! She deserved to die.

Speaking of bees, I saw in your book list that you read "The Secret Life of Bees" this year. I LOVE that book. Did you like it? You get the prize for being the first guy I know to have read it. So congrats!

And way to be a great friend and help your buddy to the end. That's heart.

Hi Lybi!!! Yeah seriously?! Who attacks the Commando!? I secretly wished I had basked in tobasco sauce like that one commercial so that when it made contact with my skin it would have exploded muahah!

Secret Life of Bees was a good book I thought. It was a great read, and a humbling experience. Most of the books that I read are naturally either nonfiction or told from a male perspective. I thought that SLOB had a very Harper Lee-esqeness to it. I read it quickly and enjoyed every page.
