Personal:

I am 27.  Have done 33 marathons and ultras. Really trying to get in shape to get back to running the miles I want to. I love to read and worked for four years in a bookstore. I like to keep track of the books I read. Currently I work as a 6th & 7th grade history teacher at the only charter school in Berkshire County, as well as serve as the coach for the cross country team! Been experimenting as a pescatarian (eating only fish) since August 10, 2011.

Just earned my Master's Degree in Adolescent Education for Social Studies. I have the most wonderful WIFE in the entire world.. EMMA! October 16, 2010

Run when you can, walk when you have to, crawl if you must. Just never give up! - Dean Karnazes -

We are all teachers and we are all students in this sport. - Dean Karnazes -

The simple act of putting one foot in front of the other and moving forward at an accelerated rate can be one of life's greatest - and simplest - pleasures. ~Dean Karnazes

"Your beliefs become your thoughts, your thoughts become your words, your words become your actions, your actions become your habits, your habits become your values, your values become your destiny." - MK Gandhi

"The marathon mercilessly rips off the outer layers of our defenses and leaves the raw human, vulnerable and naked. It is here you get an honest glimpse into the soul of an individual. Every insecurity and character flaw is open and on display for all the world to see. No communication is ever more real, no expression ever more honest. There is nothing left to hide behind. The marathon is the great equalizer. Ever movement, every word spoken and unspoken, is radiant truth. The veil has been obliterated. These are the profound moments of human interaction that I live for." - Dean Karnazes

8:30 AM - Not really all that sore from yesterday's run. Felt pretty good, and Emm and I decided to work out before running errands. Hopped onto treadmill and ran pretty well.

Total Time: 34:31 Total Distance: 4 miles Average Pace:  8:37/ mile

5:00 PM - Needed to get a couple more miles in I decided. Hopped on the treadmill and did 10:2 run:walk as I watched some of the Biggest Loser. Felt good to stack a couple runs this weekend. Next weekend will have to go for a little bit longer so I can feel confident I can do the marathons in February.

7:00 PM - Got home from work, and Emmy made dinner. Yummy pasta and veggies on the stove. Then I got changed and hit the treadmill. Felt really good. Was worried because of soreness at work, walking around. I hopped on the treadmill and soreness was soon gone. Only thing I don't like about running on the treadmill is how much I sweat. I start with a full size towel at the start (dry), and end up with a towel that looks like it got soaked in a bathtub. Trying to get in shape for my double marathon coming up in a few weeks. Not long now! Only 25 days!

7:30 PM - Crazy day at school. One coworker summed it up best when he said "Who put PCP and LSD in the kids's lunches"? Well, made it through that. Miles of Trials, Trials of Miles. Felt pretty good, until the last mile. The last mile was the worst. Nearly saw the wheels fall off.

7:30 PM - Ran on the Treadmill of Tranquility. It was nice to shut out work stress for at least an hour. Just feeling run down right now. Struggling to stay afloat. Waking up early to plan that day's lesson. So far behind and feeling like I am sinking in water. I think I am cranky due to running on too little sleep with too much stress. I am running more than I have in over a year, and yet I am still gaining weight. Angry at myself. As one of my seventh graders so aptly asked this week, "Who lit the fuse on your tampon?". I just don't know. Onwards and upwards. I guess.

8:15 PM - Long day of errands, 6 hour online coaching training, and then had to go to the esthetician for an appt that Emmy made for me. Feeling a bit run down. Deciding that I have to make a sacrifice to get the results I need - giving up drinking and hanging out with the guys/gals at work on Fridays. I need to invest that time in my relationship as well as in training, and I am too susceptible to making poor decisions. Jump starting fitness 101 with a morning run tomorrow before going to NY for the Super Bowl. I need to make the effort to get in a solid 5-6 miles each day EVERY day to make it a habit. Ran on the treadmill of tears today. Felt fine though. Getting stronger.
