Personal:

I am 27.  Have done 33 marathons and ultras. Really trying to get in shape to get back to running the miles I want to. I love to read and worked for four years in a bookstore. I like to keep track of the books I read. Currently I work as a 6th & 7th grade history teacher at the only charter school in Berkshire County, as well as serve as the coach for the cross country team! Been experimenting as a pescatarian (eating only fish) since August 10, 2011.

Just earned my Master's Degree in Adolescent Education for Social Studies. I have the most wonderful WIFE in the entire world.. EMMA! October 16, 2010

Run when you can, walk when you have to, crawl if you must. Just never give up! - Dean Karnazes -

We are all teachers and we are all students in this sport. - Dean Karnazes -

The simple act of putting one foot in front of the other and moving forward at an accelerated rate can be one of life's greatest - and simplest - pleasures. ~Dean Karnazes

"Your beliefs become your thoughts, your thoughts become your words, your words become your actions, your actions become your habits, your habits become your values, your values become your destiny." - MK Gandhi

"The marathon mercilessly rips off the outer layers of our defenses and leaves the raw human, vulnerable and naked. It is here you get an honest glimpse into the soul of an individual. Every insecurity and character flaw is open and on display for all the world to see. No communication is ever more real, no expression ever more honest. There is nothing left to hide behind. The marathon is the great equalizer. Ever movement, every word spoken and unspoken, is radiant truth. The veil has been obliterated. These are the profound moments of human interaction that I live for." - Dean Karnazes

1:30 PM - Crazy go nuts wind today. It had to be 50mph or so. Knocked over the grill outside. Afraid trees might fall on our head, Emmy and I went to the gym. I ran in my Vibrams while she did the elliptical and rowing machine. Then she helped show me around the weight room a bit. I need to get in the habit of trying to go to the weight room at least monthly lol. The run was good. Only one or two other people in the whole gym. I eased into the run because of yesterday's long run. Legs were remarkably pretty in tact! A little soreness in the left leg but feels better now. First two miles were done about 9:13 pace, and then I decided to test my speed/endurance I started opening up on the treadmill and ended up running the third mile in 6:34!! Then I scaled back some and ran the last 1.55 miles slower. Felt really good.

6:00 PM - Not as windy as yesterday and warmer. Partly sunny and temp around 54 at the start. Went with Emm to Burbank Trail across from Olivia's  Lookout. Just needed to get rid of some stress. Found out two more coworkers won't be there next year, but there are openings now and the principal told me he "expected a letter of interest and resume" to be submitted. Got to get on that at some point. Ran the loop pretty hard. Only walked up one really steep incline. On the way down, really hammered. Tried to keep up with Emmy and felt pretty strong and just went... Almost took her out at the corner by the bridge at the pond. Finished and it was good enough to relieve some stress. Felt good to get in a nice hard run with Emmy despite being kind of tired and "blah". Going to go see Open Mic night maybe tomorrow with Emmy.

6:00 PM - Went to Olivia's lookout. Cool in the mid 40s and overcast. Wanted to try wearing Vibram FFs on the course.. verdict is in - not a good choice. Too many rocks and roots, especially on the downhills. Really roughed up my feet.  Could only manage a loop in close to 38 minutes, quite slow. Then went on the road and did about .55 miles downhill @ 9:00ish pace, turned and found my second wind. I really have the strength for uphills now. Steadily increased pace and by the time I got to the top of the rise where the parking lot was I was cruising hard at 6:55 pace. Good way to end the run. Came home. I feel bad because I am gone each morning by 6:40am and don't get home until 5:30ish or so at night.. then have to go running.. in bed by about 9. I think Emm misses me. I know I miss her!!!

5:15 PM - Sunny and humid, temp around 78. Had planned on doing my long run today as Emm and I are gone all weekend to Boston to help our awesome friend Missy paint and move into her new condo she just BOUGHT!! Started the run and legs felt dead in the water. Had been on my feet for 6 hours of teaching with only one 27 minute "free" time today which I spent calling a place about a field trip for the kiddos. Was just exhausted. Still managed 7 miles on trails however.
