Personal:

I am 27.  Have done 33 marathons and ultras. Really trying to get in shape to get back to running the miles I want to. I love to read and worked for four years in a bookstore. I like to keep track of the books I read. Currently I work as a 6th & 7th grade history teacher at the only charter school in Berkshire County, as well as serve as the coach for the cross country team! Been experimenting as a pescatarian (eating only fish) since August 10, 2011.

Just earned my Master's Degree in Adolescent Education for Social Studies. I have the most wonderful WIFE in the entire world.. EMMA! October 16, 2010

Run when you can, walk when you have to, crawl if you must. Just never give up! - Dean Karnazes -

We are all teachers and we are all students in this sport. - Dean Karnazes -

The simple act of putting one foot in front of the other and moving forward at an accelerated rate can be one of life's greatest - and simplest - pleasures. ~Dean Karnazes

"Your beliefs become your thoughts, your thoughts become your words, your words become your actions, your actions become your habits, your habits become your values, your values become your destiny." - MK Gandhi

"The marathon mercilessly rips off the outer layers of our defenses and leaves the raw human, vulnerable and naked. It is here you get an honest glimpse into the soul of an individual. Every insecurity and character flaw is open and on display for all the world to see. No communication is ever more real, no expression ever more honest. There is nothing left to hide behind. The marathon is the great equalizer. Ever movement, every word spoken and unspoken, is radiant truth. The veil has been obliterated. These are the profound moments of human interaction that I live for." - Dean Karnazes

Day #47: 6 miles including 2 at the nature preserve with Emm after my car's serpentine belt busted for the third time. Got it towed and Emm's grandpa graciously let us borrow his car for the rest of the afternoon. That will be the fourth serpentine belt that car's had in 205,000 miles. Ugh! Did 4 miles later by myself in 33:17, good for about 8:20/ mile. My cross country team starts tomorrow. We will see how many little ones I have come out. First day's practice consists of a warm up, 1 mile time trial, stretching, and a cool down. Got to see what they are made of the first day.

Car! Where for art thou?
Thine absence annoys me, ho!
Don't think this is done!!!

Day #48: 1 mile with my cross country team today. Feels good to see them again. I am hoping for a great year, so long as my runners come back to me! Still waiting on 4 girls that were the core of our team that have yet to show up to practice!

Young runners to train,
Smiles, Gasps, Grunts, Pains for Gains!
Do I have the time?

Day #49: 3.25 miles total. Finding it hard to run the pace/distance I want to after teaching all day. I need to figure out how to make the kids do more work, how to get a chair in my classroom, and how to focus on the important stuff in life. Shouldn't be too hard now should it?!

Running in the rain,
And putting others to shame,
Hopin' I ain't lame.

Day #50: 7.1 miles. Have made it 50 days!! Wahoo! Had a great showing for day 3 of practice today. Really nice to see the team coming together and a bunch of guys and gals that just like running! Ran 3.1 miles with the team in 31:00 and then did 4 miles by myself in 32:45. The first 3 were relaxed and the last mile was a nice looking 6:55! Fat boy runneth! (1:03:45 Komodos)

Day #51: 7.5 miles. Ran with my cross country team. Biggest showing yet. 13 runners with still more in the wings. Hoping for a really great season. I have high hopes for both boys and girls teams. Warmed up and stretched at Russell Field. Sent the 5 quick boys out for a run to add some miles and helped the others around the field for a couple laps of jogging/walking/movement. Then joined in a 6 x 150m hill workout with them before jogging back to the school. When I got home I went for another run and did 4 miles in 33:21. Curtis reminded me today that I need to put fuel in the tank to get the calories burning. I have a suspicion my metabolic rate is in the pits right now. Hoping for a better result once I remember/force myself to eat breakfast and lunch. Funniest parts of the practice today were when NC found a baseball and told me he wanted the whole team to sign it and it could be our mascot, and when MC told me "You know Mr. Griffin, we might not all have asthma, but we all have sports-induced wedgies!" Priceless. (1:09:57 Komodos)

Conquering those hills,
Pushing past our comfort zone,
Working hard... Payoffs?

Day #52: 5.5 miles total. 2.5 miles very easy out and back to the bridge. Two new runners showed up for the first time. Just wondering where my top 4 girls from last year are. Girls team is dead in the water and they just don't seem to care. My boys team looks fired up and is ready to kick ass and take names. Went to Nonnos afterward and then saw 4 deer up in the field. So cute! Ran 3 miles at home in 24:46 (8:15/ mile). Going to Galway for a day tomorrow to see Harry who started college this week. 48:49 total (Komodos).

Sometimes it's funny,
Only as strong as your five,
Boys rock. Girls seem lost...

Day #53: 5.5 miles total. Did a 5k in 25:50 but it was too hot this a.m. Instead went to the track in NY once I came and visited Harry after dinner. Ran on a full stomach but was still able to run a 7:51 and 7:13 mile pretty relaxed. I was really surprised by the last mile considering I haven't really done speed work and wasn't really feeling it with a belly full of macaroni salad. Later tonight we had a fire in the back yard which was fun.

Sittin' 'round the fire,
Moth just suicided.. yup!
Guess aim small miss small!!
